Tips to Boost Your Immunity
The cold and flu season is moving right along. Here are some tips to boost your immunity. You can put your body into defense mode with a number of strategies based on recent research.
Strengthen Your Diet
We have heard that we should eat more veggies, fruits, whole grains, omega-3 foods, etc. to improve our overall health. Did you know that these foods also help boost your immunity? When your body is healthier, your illness fighting cells are also stronger.
In addition to your fruits and veggies, try to by meats that are organic or at least antibiotic-free. Many experts feel that all of these drugs being poured into the food supply could be a reason for more resistant bacteria popping up.
Make Time for Intimacy
Apparently, people who have intercourse once or twice a week create the important T cells for fighting off infection as well. It is about moderation though because if you go over this threshold, you could actually lose the benefits. So, it’s a good excuse for some loving, but also a good excuse to “have a headache” if your partner wants it too often.
Make Exercise a Top Priority
People who exercise 5 times a week (for about 45 minutes per session) get one third as many colds as their sedentary counterparts. Power walking, or a good house cleaning session count as well.
Focus on Rest and Relaxation
Make sure you take time to relax. Try meditation, yoga or Tai Chi. Stress depletes the body of cold and flu fighters in the body.
Getting enough sleep is also very important. Research shows that the most important REM sleep occurs between 7-9 hours so try your best to get that many hours per night.
Don’t forget the basics like hand washing, covering a cough, etc., but these extra tips are great to keep in mind. Have a save, happy and healthy week ahead.
