stress-300x225Originally posted by me on Yeahtips.com, I thought this would be a great one to share here. These days, we all live very busy lives that can lead to stress and anxiety. Holidays can often add to the situation for many of us. Consider the following tips to help manage your stress all year round.

Get Enough Sleep
During the sleep cycle, your body has time to repair itself. You body is rested and restored. Reaching the REM stage of sleep is important. This typically occurs in the last few hours of a 7-9 hour sleep.

Exercise
Exercise helps create the “happy” and “calming” chemicals in your body. The release of physical energy helps dissipate feelings of stress in a healthy way. Physical activity can also take your mind off of your problems as you focus on the activity at hand.

Meditate
Simple mediation can work wonders to reduce stress. Even 5 minutes a day to clear your mind and focus on controlled breathing has been proven to significantly alleviate stress.

Minimize alcohol
You might think that the glass of wine is relaxing your tension but alcohol is a depressant. Much research demonstrates that alcohol actually induces the stress response by stimulating hormone release in the stress areas of the brain.

Take control of your environment
Especially this time of year, organization and preparation are keys to minimizing holiday stress. Make your to-do list. Don’t leave everything to the last minute. Delegate what tasks you can.

Of course, if you stress or anxiety is frequent or seems to be unmanageable, you should speak with your health care provider. What other tips do you have for managing stress? Let me know.

Great easy to follow tips! I was thinking about relaxing with a beer and watching Glee tonight but I think I may just tackle some of my “To Do” list instead of procrastinating.
