The Power of the Calendar for Fitness

21 January 2010 5 Comments

wowy-workout-calendarTony Horton, creator of P90X, wrote an article recently on the power of his calendar. I could not agree more. Here is Tony’s advice:

“I have a calendar on my desk that fulfills many roles for me. It’s where I keep track of clients, meetings at Beachbody, and all other appointments. The most important use for this calendar is tracking my workouts. The days and times are scheduled at the beginning of each month. When I’ve completed a workout, I circle the date, write what number (for the month) it is, and what type of workout.

My goal (for the last 18 years) has been a minimum of 20 workouts a month. That’s 240 workouts a year, with 125 days off. If you don’t plan when and what you’re doing, you probably won’t do it. If you make a point to schedule your workouts in advance (and create a goal), your chance of success will skyrocket. My calendar is a simple and powerful tool. Without it, I’m lost. With it, I’m organized, committed, and successful.”

Making a schedule for your workout is really powerful. Logging in a workout can be even better. When you login your workouts to the Beachbody WOWY (workout with you) site, you can even win up to $1000 each day. It’s free. Join us!

Right now I have my book to follow (day 55 of P90X) and then I log my workouts into WOWY. But I’m sure it will be useful to actually schedule workouts and keep me on track once I’m not in the structured routine.

Love this idea! Am just getting back into the gym after (gulp!) 20 years and this is a fabulous suggestion. Thanks for the idea! Stopping by from SITS.

So much helpful fitness information. I ordered the P90X. Sadly I have excuse for why I haven’t done it yet. The main being, I sort of need a DVD player to put them in! I see the comment before me says there is a book for the p90x. I wasn’t aware of that. But maybe I’ll have to look into it.

Stopping by from SITS to give you a big welcome to the SITStahood. We are so glad you could join us and look forward to seeing you around!

Ah, a DVD player is quite necessary. The guide book gives you a lot of great tips and a workout plan to follow, but it does not outline each of the exercises. You’ll need a DVD player. Some portable ones are quite inexpensive. Or perhaps your computer?
