How to Get Rid of Belly Fat?

25 July 2009 6 Comments

It seems that the term “Belly Fat” is all the rage right now. Everyone wants to lose it, fight it or turn it into a six pack. So, I figured that I better jump on the bandwagon with a belly fat article as well. It seems that all ab workouts are not created equal and some exercises that do not target the abs specifically could still work very well in reducing the fat in that area of the body that we would all like to shrink.

In doing research, one of the main tips that I found time and time again is that higher intensity is better for the fat in the belly region. Apparently when two groups burned the same amount of calories, those who burned them in shorter periods with higher intensity had significantly less belly fat than the group who took the slow and steady approach. Giving yourself that extra push can increase the hormones that help burn fat while at rest. Ab fat may be very susceptible to this effect.
After having two children, I never expected to lose that belly pudge that did not want to budge for at least the first 3 years post babies. Now, I cannot believe that my abs are in better shape at age 40 then before I had children. I have higher intensity workouts to thank for my results. Give it a try. Push a little harder with each of your upcoming workouts.

Have a fitness question? Let me know and I’ll answer it in a future post.

Belly fat is my main problem. If I gain weight my belly is the first place it accumulates. I hate crunches, plus I have a bulge in my coccyx making it more difficult for me. I wish I just get the fat out, I am not willing for a 6 pack! never had!

I know you posted this on our site too but I thought I would leave you a comment, especially because I just had my fourth baby and my belly region is my main target when I work out.

I just had a c section so my workouts are not that intense yet. I think I am just scared to do too many crunches and use the ab machines too much. Even though I am back to my pre pregnancy weight already I am still concerned about my belly. I’m not ready to don that bikini just yet. Maybe tomorrow I should work those abs a little harder. Thanks for the motivation!
