Find your Fitness Inspiration

26 February 2009 29 Comments

By now, 30-50% of people have given up on their New Year’s Resolution. How about you? Did you set a goal that is strong enough and important enough for you to stick with it? Or, are you letting other things get in the way. Are you letting yourself get lower and lower on your priority list? It is easy to do for so many mothers. I did it myself for a few years after my children were born.

An honest self-assessment is a good place to start. How many of you know exactly what you want to achieve? Where are you now in your progress towards that goal? What is your plan to get from here to there? How many of you will settle for less or “good enough?”

I challenge you not to settle for less. Seek out people who are better than you, fitter than you, stronger than you. Then, keep an open mind and learn from them. These people may be a your neighbor, someone at your gym, someone you meet online or even an instructor on a DVD.

You might find being exposed to superior discipline and fitness levels will drive you to work harder than you thought possible. In time you’ll overcome your self-imposed limitations and make progress you didn’t think was possible. My challenge to you for this week is to find someone who inspires you to meet your fitness goals.

If your personal fitness is important to you, work as hard as you possibly can. It won’t be easy, it won’t happen overnight, but it will happen. Today, I am serving as your personal cheerleader. Yes, YOU! I know that YOU can do it!

I’m completely guilty of giving up on resolutions. Thanks for the tips, I needed a little motivation to get myself back to working hard!

I totally need to spend more time on me. Ever since I had my baby, my back has felt very weak. I need to get fit!

I like the idea of surrounding yourself with fit people. That’s actually something I’ve never done. I’ve always sought out friends my own size or bigger so I would blend in. My resolution actually hasn’t started yet, I had to wait until my baby arrived.

I have stuck to my Resolution thus far. My biggest challenge is losing weight to be healthy vs. losing weight to look good.

I just had my 4th kid over 3 months ago and I really need to start losing weight. I had my children back to back and felt like my pregnancy was an excuse to get fat. I can’t hide any longer and need to get motivated to lose weight.

My husband started working out 6 weeks ago, and he’s really inspired me. We’ve cut out sweets, but I still need to get more exercise and diet a bit (it’s hard since I’m nursing my son). I can’t wait to get outside with the stroller as the weather warms up, but reading your post has motivated me to not wait until spring. I need to get moving now!

I’m so glad Momlogic has you blogging. I have been trying to get back into the exercise mode and haven’t been able to motivate myself.

Staying in shape is such a great feeling. When I had my first son, many moons ago, I kept almost all my pregnancy weight for almost 2 years. I finally got determined and lost it all and swore I would never let it happen again. Since then, I don’t over eat and I exercise. I made the decision that I feel so much better with myself when I am not overweight, that I am doing it for my state of mind.

I’m ready to feel fit again after baby #3, and it is easy to give up when you’re low on sleep and constantly doing for others. Thanks for the motivation to work hard and seek out others who will inspire continued progress!

Yes! I need a cheerleader. I have a few pounds to lose and want to workout again…..time to stop procrastinating. Thanks! I’m glad Mom Logic chose you :o )

When I had my first babe, I was able to lose the 26 pounds pretty easy. Now that I have had my 2nd babe, It is hard to lose those last, pesky 6 or so pounds. I gained 45 stinkin’ pounds this time around. I did nothing different!! WHATEVER!! I heard you can gain more the 2nd time around. I hate to see it if we decide to have a 3rd! What am I gonna gain then, 50 pounds??? Hope and pray not!! I have been trying to get back on a normal workout schedule, but that is hard with 2 rug rats running around!! Gotta love them to pieces, though!! Thanks for the site!! :) Julie Spearing

I really do need a personal cheerleader. I joined a healthy “train” at the end of last year and made some progress, but what I really need now is someone on my tail, someone to be accountable to. Thanks for the motivation!

Thanks for this! i just told my friend about how my day was so busy, i feel like I didn’t have enough time for my kids… and she asked what about time for myself? Now that two of you have reminded me of it, maybe I will get more serious about doing something for myself!

  • jmolea01 said:

    Wow you’re arms look awesome!

I’ve realized after a lifetime of dieting and hating my body that I want to be fit, and fit for me and no one else. I don’t need a six pack, but I want to be able to keep up with my kids and participate in sports when the weather is nice. I’ve been losing about a pound a week but strength is more important to me now than looks are.
I think that focusing on what I will be able to do is more motivating than focusing on what I will look like :)

Thanks for being my cheerleader today.

A few friends and I have recently started a fitness club where we meet 2x’s a week and workout to a video. I would never do it on my own. I’m glad my friend started this group. I didn’t feel like going tonight but now I think I’ll make myself go.

3 years ago, I took off 45 lbs. I have put back ten of it and am so upset! You are my motivation to take it back off and I just got back from my first 30 minute fast (whew!) walk.

As a size zero (the same size I was when 14..(3 kids and 2 grans ago) I thought I'd share this.

When I was preggers with my first, (and my husband mistaking me for the garbage pail…) my best friend had her first and was back in size in weeks.

Now we had been the same size..
34/22/34 (I am a casuality of the metric system).

So she has her son, and in weeks…she's wearing the same clothes…

    Secret?

    Eat less.
Eat a Hell of a Lot less.

When I had my first I not only ate a lot less but wore a very tight girdle for 6 weeks.

I had two..my sleep one which was thinner spandex and my day one which was robust.

I did exercises, but I ate a lot less.

Over the years I do the 'calvin' test…that is if I can't zip up the size 0 Calvins, I stop eating and start washing out until I can.

I'm a vegetarian, and have been most of my life, and eat sensibly…so that I can get away with a chocolate 'muffin'.. I mean who are they fooling..with that 'Muffin' label?
    And those squares of Green&Blacks,
and a few cookies and stuff..
    but I don't eat much.
