Exercise: One Step at a Time

7 October 2009 2 Comments

onestepThere are so many excuses to skip a workout. I recently fell into quite a rut. I had a head injury (which of course is a valid excuse), then my kids were sick, then I was sick… then it was Friday, “so let’s wait until Monday,” I said to myself. The list of excuses can go on and on. It happens to the best of us. Even with my commitment to health and fitness over the past two years, I fell off the workout wagon. So, I need to get back on. How about you?

Well, the only way to walk a mile is to take one step at a time. The only way to improve your fitness is the same way. We need to throw away the excuses and get moving. My latest excuse has been lack of time. If I could not devote 45-60 minutes to my workout, I had myself convinced that a shorter session would not be worth it, even though I knew better.

Today, I finally forced myself to squeeze in a 30-minute workout and it felt great. When I’m feeling this way, I need to recall the early days in my transformation. I was tired after only about 10 minutes on the exercise bike. Getting on the bike every day for ten minutes turned into 20 and 30 and so on.

This is what I need to remember. We all start somewhere, we all start small, we all need to take it one step at a time. So, whether you are just starting out or have fallen back to old habits, come with me, we will restart together, one step at a time.

Great points. I need to make sure I work out every day. I’ve been slacking lately.

I feel so much better now that I am back on a program. Turbo Jam today was so much fun!
